Frozen meat company share certificate

Frozen meat company share certificate

The New Zealand Frozen Meat and Storage Company, which issued this share certificate in 1886, was one of many such businesses that were set up after the first successful shipment of frozen meat from New Zealand in 1882. However, initially the trade was not as successful as many expected. It was not until the mid-1890s that it became consistently profitable. The New Zealand Frozen Meat and Storage Company had gone into liquidation by that time, and shareholders lost everything that they had invested.
