Collecting pāua

This snorkeller is gathering pāua in the clear waters around Stewart Island. Fishery regulations in New Zealand state that pāua cannot be collected using scuba gear – a measure designed to conserve stocks of this prized shellfish. Most divers collect them either by free diving without gear or by snorkelling.
