Inaugural Tarara Day, Henderson, Auckland, 1999 (1st of 3)

Inaugural Tarara Day, Henderson, Auckland, 1999

Few Dalmatian women arrived until the 1920s, and many early Dalmatian gum diggers married and had children with Māori women. Tarara Day serves as a celebration for those of Dalmatian and Māori descent. Dalmatian music, kapa haka (Māori performing arts) and a hāngī (food cooked in an earth oven) are all on the agenda.
