Dalmatians and Māori at Houhora

Dalmatian and Māori gum diggers gather at Houhora in Northland on New Year’s Day, 1911. A number of Dalmatians paid these Māori to make them a hāngī (earth oven). The diggers and their friends are about to feast on a pig being carved by the gentleman in the centre of the photograph.
