Walk-through cow shed

Walk through sheds allowed cows to leave the bail through a door at the front once they had been milked, which reduced the time it took to milk a herd. The introduction of milking machines further speeded the process. Each cow has a chain hooked behind it, to stop it from backing out of the bail, and a leg rope to prevent it kicking the milking cups off. The men are milking by hand to strip out the last of the milk once machine milking was complete. This was later seen as unnecessary.
