Story: Dairying and dairy products
For periods during the first half of the 20th century Britain took all of New Zealand’s butter exports. They had to be carried by ship, so any reduction in freight rates for both butter and cheese, as mentioned in this 1905 newspaper clipping, were very welcome to both producers and consumers.
