Story: Country schooling
Christ’s College in Christchurch was founded in 1850. A fee-paying school for boys, it was modelled on famous English schools such as Eton. It was established by the Canterbury Association, which had organised the English settlement of the region that year. The sons of well-off Canterbury farmers have always made up a large proportion of boarders at the school.
