Manoao or Kirk’s pine

Manoao or Kirk’s pine

Manoao or Kirk’s pine is an uncommon tree confined to forests of the northern North Island. It usually grows in association with kauri. Its juvenile leaves are long, narrow and spreading, and contrast markedly with its scale-like adult leaves. Juvenile leaves often persist on the adult tree, as shown here.
