Story: Conifer–broadleaf forests
This fine stand of kahikatea fringes the shore of Lake Paringa, South Westland. Kahikatea is New Zealand’s tallest tree, reaching 60 metres in height. It forms dense forests on swampy ground, but will grow in fertile hill country up to an altitude of 700 metres.
