A second important canoe for Tauranga Moana is Tākitimu (known to Tauranga Moana tribes as Takitimu). As this whakapapa (genealogical table) shows, Ranginui, the founding ancestor of Ngāti Ranginui, was the great-grandson of Tamatea-arikinui, the captain of the canoe.
