Dancing Cossacks

In 1975 the National Party exploited Cold War anxieties about communist influence in New Zealand society to great effect. In an election advertisement it raised the fear that the incumbent Labour government's superannuation scheme would lead to the nationalisation of all land and assets. The suggestion was absurd, but National went on to a landslide victory in the 1975 general election.
