Red-banded perch

Red-banded perch

The red banded perch (Hypoplectrodes huntii) is common and widespread. It belongs to the family Serranidae, the sea perches or gropers. Endemic to New Zealand, the red-banded perch inhabits crevices on boulder bottoms. It feeds on crabs and small fish. It grows to around 20 centimetres.
