Temperature variations, 1900–2004

During the second half of the 20th century New Zealand’s temperatures became significantly warmer. The diagram shows the annual variation from the 1971–2000 norm (represented by the central horizontal line). After the late 1950s there are more frequent variations above the norm than below it, which is consistent with global warming and climate change. The data was gathered at seven weather stations (Auckland, Masterton, Wellington, Nelson, Hokitika, Christchurch and Dunedin).
