Computer climate modelling requires extremely powerful computers. The National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research’s HPCF Cray T3E supercomputer carries out atmospheric, oceanic and fisheries modelling. When first installed in 1999 it was ranked as the 64th most powerful computer in the world.
