Story: City history and people

Sol Square, Christchurch

Sol Square, Christchurch

The 1990s saw a revitalisation of inner-city living and life, leading to an explosion of street cafés, restaurants and nightspots. In Christchurch, the former warehousing district between Lichfield and High streets was transformed in the early 2000s to a range of residential, retail and hospitality uses. One popular area was Sol (South of Lichfield) Square, featuring bustling restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
