Story: Citrus, berries, exotic fruit and nuts

John Kraft harvests 500 tonnes of strawberries on 12 hectares of land at Coatesville, near Auckland. In the early 2000s, strawberries are grown on raised ridges covered in black polythene. Water and nutrients are supplied to plant roots through pipes buried along the ridges. The polythene stops weeds from growing and helps raise soil temperatures.
