Story: Citrus, berries, exotic fruit and nuts

Grafting oranges

In New Zealand, most oranges are grown on a hardy rootstock of Poncirus trifoliata, a citrus with small, sour fruits. It is relatively disease-resistant, and tolerates drought and wind. This 1966 film clip shows orange-tree buds being inserted and taped into the rootstock, some young grafted plants and an orchard of grafted trees.
