‘A dastardly attempt’

In 1895 interests in Victoria, where support for Australian federation was strong, feared New Zealand’s prosperity and independence would upset efforts to unite the Australasian colonies. This New Zealand Graphic cartoon shows Victoria attempting to derail New Zealand instead.
