Tourism is important for Canterbury, and in 2003 it accounted for 12% of all jobs in Christchurch. One attraction is the casino in Victoria Street, designed by the architects Warren and Mahoney, and opened in 1994. It operates 24 hours a day most days of the year, and targets Asian visitors in its publicity.
