Country towns

Country towns

Small towns grew throughout Canterbury to service the rural districts in the 19th century. After the Second World War many began to decline, but they are still a distinctive feature of Canterbury. This scene of farming people with their horses at Cheviot in 2006 conveys some of the spirit of small-town life.
