The expansion of Christchurch to 1926
As tramways were extended, the city of Christchurch spread out from its centre in a radial pattern that partly followed the tramlines. Suburbs developed first along the tramlines and then filled the gaps between.This diagram shows the growth up to 1896, and then to 1926.
