Story: Canoeing and rafting
When European-style canoeing became popular in New Zealand, the picturesque Whanganui River was the first location for the sport. Intrepid canoeists travelled up and down the river, notable for its many rapids. These more sedate paddlers are in an open Canadian canoe, around 1910.
