Landing places of the Tākitimu

Landing places of the Tākitimu

There are two versions of the story of the Tākitimu canoe. Northern accounts say that the canoe first landed at Whanga-o-Kena, a small island off the East Cape. According to southern traditions it first landed at Tauranga. This map shows the landing places of both traditions.
