Story: Canoe traditions
The Tainui canoe went on a long journey after first landing at Whangaparāoa. It was carried across the portage at Tāmaki before coming to a final resting place at Te Ahurei, in Kāwhia Harbour. The Te Arawa canoe also stopped at Whangaparāoa before it finally landed, and was eventually burnt at Maketū.
