Story: Birds of open country
These high-country tussock grasslands are near Ranfurly, Otago. Tussocklands form large expanses of open country, frequented by native pipits and introduced skylarks. Before these areas were cleared for grazing, shrubs growing among the tussock would have hosted a greater diversity of bird species.
