Carrion beetle

Carrion beetle

This carrion beetle (Zeanecrophilus prolongatus) was collected from beneath a dead blackbird in coastal Otago. Carrion beetles live mainly in forests, and as the name indicates, feed mainly on dead animals.

This specimen was collected by John Nunn.
