Landforms and land use
The Kaimai Range, along with the hills behind Te Puke and Matatā, the Kaingaroa plateau and the offshore islands, is volcanic. The eastern ranges consist of older sedimentary rocks. Coastal zones and some river flats are of more recent sedimentary rocks. Land use is markedly influenced by these geological patterns.
