Story: Bay of Plenty region
In the first half of the 20th century, local students who had passed their proficiency examination (usually at around age 12) would pursue secondary education in classrooms attached to the primary school. Tauranga School, shown here, held secondary classes in an area curtained off from a cloakroom.
