Winston Peters

Winston Peters was first returned as a National Party MP for the Tauranga electorate in 1984. After disagreements with his party he resigned as MP in March 1993. He then sought re-election for the Tauranga electorate as an independent candidate, in a by-election which he won handsomely. He retained the seat at every election until 2005, when he lost narrowly. He retains a seat in Parliament as a list MP, and leads the New Zealand First party, which he set up in 1993. This billboard is from his 2005 election campaign.
