Travelling group, Te Whāiti

In the summer of 1907 the New Zealand short-story writer Katherine Mansfield travelled through the Urewera country with this group of English tourists. She is standing second from left, with local people at Te Whāiti. Her experiences, which she recorded in a journal, prompted one of her best-known stories, ‘The woman at the store’.
