Aircraft of the late 1970s
By 1979, when this photograph was taken at Wellington airport, Air New Zealand had absorbed NAC and was the sole state-owned carrier. The NAC domestic fleet was rebranded with Air New Zealand colours. The two main aircraft were the Fokker Friendship (foreground) and the Boeing 737 (centre). Behind them are a Safe Air Bristol freighter and an interisland ferry, both used to carry cargo across Cook Strait.
