A corner of Australia at Kerikeri

The first New Zealand Christian mission was founded by Samuel Marsden from Sydney. Though most of the missionaries came directly from Britain, the mission station at Kerikeri, shown here in Augustus Earle’s painting ‘Bay of Islands, New Zealand’ (1827), looked remarkably similar to Parramatta near Sydney, where Marsden had his base.
