Kōkako recovery

Kōkako recovery

In 1994 the Department of Conservation and Auckland Regional Council initiated the Hūnua Kōkako Project, to reintroduce the endangered kōkako bird to the Hūnua Ranges. Since then the number of kōkako pairs have risen from one to nine. These volunteers carry nesting boxes.
