Thomas Mason's gardens at Taita, Hutt Valley, Wellington

In 1841 Thomas Mason purchased land at Taita and began cultivating it. By the 1870s when John Atherton Horsfall painted this watercolour, Mason's gardens contained many varieties of plants, shrubs and trees.
