Two of Buller's birds

Two of Buller's birds

This plate showing female (left) and male examples of the soon-to-be extinct huia was one of the lifelike illustrations by J. G. Keulemans for Walter Buller's A history of the birds of New Zealand (1888). At the time of publication, this popular work was considered by many to be a valuable record of the country's native birds before they inevitably died out.
