Story: Apples and pears
During much of the 20th century the New Zealand government employed fruit inspectors to check the quality of apples and pears before sale or export. Nowadays a series of quality checks are carried out by orchardists, fruit packers, cool-store operators and exporters before the fruit reaches market. These inspectors are checking apples, around 1939.
