Story: Apples and pears
Jazz apples are new on the world market. They are a sweet, crisp apple with firm flesh and excellent keeping qualities. The cultivar was bred in New Zealand by crossing Braeburn with Royal Gala, part of a government apple-breeding programme that ran through the 1980s and 1990s. In 2002, Jazz apples were granted plant variety rights, ensuring that New Zealand receives royalties from fruit grown overseas.
