Remains of a light aircraft

The wreckage of a Wellington Aero Club Piper Tomahawk, which crashed at Wellington airport in late September 1997, is pictured being towed from the runway. Light aircraft are particularly accident prone, and in the early 2000s New Zealand’s accident rates were high compared with other countries. One of the reasons may be the popularity of light aircraft for recreation and practical purposes.
