<em>New Zealand Country Journal</em>

The first issue of the New Zealand Country Journal, published by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, appeared on 1 January 1877. The journal aimed to be a ‘record of information connected with agriculture, pastoral and horticultural pursuits and rural sports in New Zealand’. Topics covered in the first issue included grasses and forage plants, sheep breeds, statistics on cultivation in Australia and New Zealand, trees for shelter, and reports on the grain and wool markets in New Zealand.
