Vintage aircraft

Clad in period flying cap and goggles, a jubilant pilot flies a restored De Havilland Tiger Moth over the Wairarapa in 1992. Restoring and flying old aircraft is now a popular pastime in New Zealand, fostered by groups such as the New Zealand Sport and Vintage Aviation Society. In this case, the society obtained the wreck of the Tiger Moth in 1976 and spent years restoring it to the stage where it could be flown again. This was the aircraft’s first official flight after being restored.
