House built across a fault
This house in Abbotsford, Dunedin, straddled a fault that opened up during a landslide in 1979. The residents had to abandon it, and eventually the house was destroyed as the land beneath subsided. Although this fault was not the result of an earthquake, it clearly illustrates the damage a fault rupture can cause.
