Story: Game birds

Grey partridge (3rd of 6)

Grey partridge

Many attempts have been made to introduce the grey partridge to New Zealand for hunting – even as recently as the 1950s and 1960s. These have all failed, although a few birds appear to breed in the wild, and birds have been reported in North Canterbury, Southland, the Bay of Plenty, Taranaki and Hawke's Bay. They are also raised on game preserves.
