Ngāwini Yates, 1852/1853?–1910 and Samuel Yates, 1829?–1900
Husband and wife Ngāwini and Samuel Yates farmed an extensive estate at Pārengarenga Harbour in the second half of the 19th century, and also ran a trading establishment. The land was acquired through Ngāwini’s tribal connections, and many of her Te Aupōuri relatives worked in the farming enterprise.
