John Arthur Bartrum, 1885–1949


As lecturer and later professor of geology at the University of Auckland, Arthur Bartrum developed a comprehensive knowledge of Northland geology.

Norman Hargrave Taylor, 1900–1975


After he moved to Whāngārei in 1937, soil scientist Norman Taylor began to study the complex soil patterns of Northland. His work provided a basis for understanding land development and fertiliser requirements for the region.
