Hospital services

A hospital was established at Rāwene, on the Hokianga Harbour, in 1910, but early staff had to work in difficult conditions. Because of the bad roads, getting patients to hospital for treatment was a challenge. Here, Mr E. Ferguson transports a patient by sled along a muddy road. A nurse is ready to receive them at the gate to the hospital on the hill behind.
