Every Sunday morning Sinhalese children from around Auckland gather at the Buddhist Srilankaramaya temple to learn about the culture, religion and language of their homeland. Similarly, Tamil children are studying their mother tongue at a special school.

New Zealand’s Sri Lankan people maintain powerful ties with Sri Lanka – whether by maintaining its ancient traditions or supporting social and political movements. Having left one island in the Indian Ocean for another in the Pacific, they value the more peaceful life they’ve found.
