Arthur Hamilton Gordon, 1829–1912
Arthur Gordon Hamilton had a long career in the British colonial service in the 19th century. After a controversial period as governor of New Zealand from 1880 to 1882, he was governor of Ceylon from 1883 to 1890.

Dentist and public health administrator John Llewellyn Saunders helped establish a training school for dental nurses in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in 1953.
