A Paisley shawl
Many Scottish migrants to New Zealand left their homeland to escape industrial depression. The town of Paisley relied almost exclusively on weaving, particularly of shawls. When the industry went into recession in the 1840s several parties of Paisley weavers opted for new opportunities in New Zealand.
