The Catholic Church became the strongest vehicle for expressing Irish heritage in New Zealand. Here Ryan Brothers, building contractors of Irish background, have begun clearing the grounds of Our Lady of Fatima, a Catholic parochial school in Mairehau, Christchurch, which opened in 1952.
