Auckland area beaches

Auckland area beaches

This map of the popular beaches in the Auckland area shows the number of visitors expected on a busy summer’s day and the number of rescues in the summer of 1995–96. The high number of rescues at a beach such as Piha confirms that drowning is the greatest danger at a New Zealand beach. Many beaches, especially on the west coasts, often have large seas and dangerous rips.
